✈️ Smart Packing Tips for Travelers
Make your journey smoother and stress-free with these TSA-friendly packing strategies.
- Always pack critical medications in your carry-on — never in checked luggage.
- Include a change of clothes and basic toiletries in case your checked bag is delayed or lost.
- Any items you cannot afford to lose or be without (travel documents, wallet, jewelry, electronics, chargers) should stay in your carry-on.
- Keep valuables and electronics in your carry-on (laptops, phones, cameras, jewelry).
- Follow the 3-1-1 liquids rule: containers ≤ 3.4 oz (100 ml), all inside 1 quart-size clear bag, 1 bag per passenger.
- Label bags with name, phone, and email (avoid full home addresses).
- Pack all spare lithium batteries, power banks, and portable chargers in carry-on only.
- Cover terminals with tape or place each battery in a small plastic bag/case to prevent short circuits.
- Switch off devices fully before packing (not sleep mode).
- Cordless butane/gas hair tools: carry-on only with safety cover. No refills allowed.
- Corded hair tools (dryers, curling irons, flat irons): allowed in both carry-on and checked bags.
- Liquids/gels/aerosols: carry-on in ≤ 3.4 oz containers; larger bottles OK in checked baggage.
- Roll clothes instead of folding to save space and reduce wrinkles.
- Put heavy shoes at the bottom; use shoe bags to separate from clothes.
- Pack versatile layers that mix and match.
- Don’t pack prohibited items “just in case” — they’ll be confiscated and could delay you.
- Use TSA-approved locks for checked luggage.
- Keep fragile items in carry-on; if checked, wrap in clothing and mark the bag “FRAGILE.”
- Check destination rules — some countries restrict items TSA allows (e.g., certain meds, foods, drones).
- Carry prescriptions in original containers with your name on the label.
- Keep power adapters/voltage converters in carry-on so you can charge anywhere.
