For nearly five decades, travel advisors at All About Travel have helped clients navigate everything from simple airline tickets to complex international vacations, cruises, corporate travel, and once-in-a-lifetime journeys.
Over the years, we have seen the travel industry change dramatically.
We went from handwritten airline tickets to computerized reservation systems. From paper brochures to online booking engines. From calling airlines directly to real-time global booking systems that can compare flights in seconds.
And now, the next major shift is here: artificial intelligence.
Recently, I came across an article discussing AI-powered travel agents and how quickly they can research destinations, build itineraries, compare pricing, and assist travelers. Honestly, I found it fascinating. AI is incredibly impressive, and I believe it will absolutely become part of the future of travel planning.
In fact, agencies like ours already use technology every single day to better serve clients.
But while reading the article, I also found myself thinking about the parts of travel that technology still struggles to fully understand. Not because AI is bad — it clearly is not — but because travel is often more emotional, complicated, and human than people realize.
So rather than arguing against AI, I thought I would simply share a few honest thoughts from someone who has spent decades helping people travel.

AI Can Compare Thousands of Travel Options in Seconds
But More Choices Do Not Always Mean Better Decisions
One of the most impressive things about AI is speed. It can analyze huge amounts of travel information almost instantly.
But sometimes travelers do not need more options. They need clarity.
Many people become overwhelmed when presented with:
- 50 hotel choices
- 20 flight combinations
- dozens of cruise options
- endless online reviews
A good travel advisor often helps by narrowing the field intelligently.
Instead of saying:
“Here are 200 possibilities.”
An experienced advisor says:
“Based on what you told me, these are the 2 or 3 options I truly think fit you best — and here is why.”
That kind of guidance still matters.
AI Can Build Detailed Itineraries Very Quickly
But Great Travel Is About More Than Logistics
AI can absolutely help organize information and build schedules. That is impressive and useful.
But truly memorable travel experiences often come from nuance and real-world experience.
For example:
- knowing which cruise cabins are quieter
- understanding which European connections are too risky
- recognizing when an itinerary is too rushed
- understanding how different travelers handle stress, pacing, and downtime
Travel is not just about getting from point A to point B.
It is about:
- comfort
- timing
- expectations
- emotions
- and creating experiences people remember for years
That human element can be difficult to automate.
AI Learns Preferences
But Relationships Go Deeper Than Data
Modern AI systems are becoming incredibly good at identifying patterns and preferences.
But long-term travel relationships are often built on trust and personal understanding.
A trusted travel advisor may know:
- your preferred airlines
- the hotel brands you love
- whether you prefer busy schedules or relaxed pacing
- if you dislike tight flight connections
- how your family likes to travel
- what matters most to you emotionally during a trip
That knowledge often develops over years of conversations and experiences together.
It becomes personal.
And for many travelers, that relationship still has tremendous value.
AI Is Available 24/7
But Technology Cannot Truly Advocate for You
One of the biggest strengths of AI is availability. It never sleeps.
But when travel goes wrong, many travelers still want a real person in their corner.
When:
- flights cancel
- storms disrupt schedules
- hotels overbook
- cruise itineraries change
- baggage disappears
- or travelers get stranded
people often want more than automated responses.
They want:
- reassurance
- guidance
- advocacy
- and someone who understands their situation
One of the most important parts of being a travel advisor is helping clients navigate unexpected problems when they occur.
That human support can make an enormous difference during stressful situations.
AI Makes Travel More Accessible
And That Is Actually a Good Thing
This may surprise some people, but I do not believe AI is bad for travel.
In many ways, I think it will help more people explore the world, research destinations, and become excited about travel experiences they may not have considered before.
That is positive.
But I also believe that as travel information becomes more automated and abundant, experienced human guidance may actually become more valuable for travelers who want:
- expert recommendations
- reduced stress
- personalized service
- advocacy during disruptions
- and confidence in important travel decisions
Especially for:
- cruises
- luxury travel
- Europe
- multi-generational family vacations
- destination weddings
- corporate travel
- and complex international itineraries
human experience still matters.

The Future of Travel Is Probably Not AI Versus Travel Advisors
Personally, I do not see the future as a battle between artificial intelligence and human travel advisors.
I think the future will belong to agencies and professionals who learn how to combine both.
Technology can help:
- improve efficiency
- organize information
- speed up research
- and provide incredible tools for planning
But human advisors still bring:
- judgment
- accountability
- relationships
- emotional intelligence
- supplier connections
- and real-world experience
At All About Travel, we fully intend to embrace technology and continue evolving with the industry.
But we also believe there will always be value in having someone you know, trust, and can call when your travel experience truly matters.
Because at the end of the day, travel is not just about booking trips.
It is about people.
And that part will probably always remain human.
